We commenced underwriting UK Construction and Engineering in late 2009. The portfolio comprises Contractors All Risks and Erection All Risks (including Public Liability, Advance Loss of Profits, Contractors Plant and Existing Property), Machinery Breakdown and Business Interruption.

This account focuses on UK and European domiciled clients and contractors in segments including Infrastructure (e.g. roads, utilities etc.); Buildings (e.g. offices, hospitals, prisons etc.) and Power Generation. We will be underwriting mainly project-specific risks but will consider annual risks on a contracts attaching basis. We aim to underwrite risks within the UK, Europe and other territories (excluding North America).

This business is written through Lloyd's brokers, and we will work closely with our intermediaries to provide products appropriate to their distribution channels and customer requirements. Canopius is delighted to have employed a specialist Construction and Engineering underwriter with some 30 years' experience. His expertise will enable us to take a leading role in the market, providing the required critical experience and knowledge to meet the complex needs of our targeted clients.

Canopius also underwrites engineering reinsurance on both a proportional and excess of loss treaty basis. Other related classes written include marine construction, offshore energy construction, project cargo and Professional Indemnity relating to the construction industry.
