Canopius UK

Our core business in the UK is Canopius Managing Agents Limited, the 10th largest managing agency at Lloyd's and the largest privately-owned managing agency. Its principal business is the management of Syndicate 4444, which underwrites a diversified portfolio of insurance and reinsurance business worldwide, and Syndicate 260, which underwrites a specialist portfolio of UK motor business. Syndicate 260 also operates from our offices in South Woodford, in Essex.

Projected gross premiums written for 2011 are around £620 million for Syndicate 4444 and £59 million for Syndicate 260.

The UK Division also includes Canopius Underwriting Limited, which underwrites specialty lines on behalf of Syndicate 4444.

In addition to the business written directly by Syndicate 4444, Canopius also provides UK property and liability products for the SME sector via Arista Insurance Limited, in which it holds a strategic ownership interest.

The UK division is headed by Michael Watson, Chairman of Canopius Group

In June 2011, Canopius announced the formation of a new business division - UK Retail Insurance (which sits within the UK division mentioned above). This comprises the UK personal and SME commercial lines written by Syndicates 4444 and 260. The division also acts as the interface for the Group's distribution channels, Arista Insurance, based in London and K. Drewe / Look Insurance based in Bewdley, Worcestershire. Jim Giordano, Group Chief Underwriting Officer has direct responsibility for the oversight of Canopius Managing Agents Limited's underwriting and reinsurance purchasing. Stephen Manning, Managing Director of Canopius Managing Agents Limited is responsible for all other Agency functions.
