London, 21 July 2025 – Canopius Group, a leading global specialty and P&C (re)insurer, is pleased to announce the promotion of Ben Pinnington to Head of Marine & Energy Treaty, effective 7 July 2025, and the appointment of Imogen Wright as Underwriter – Marine & Energy Treaty, effective 13 October 2025.
Ben commenced his insurance career as a graduate in 2018, starting as an Underwriting Assistant in the Political Risk team at AmTrust Syndicate 1861. After Canopius acquired Syndicate 1861, he transitioned into Treaty Reinsurance and steadily advanced, becoming an Underwriter for Marine & Energy Treaty in 2021. A secondment to Bermuda in late 2023 broadened Ben’s global perspective, and earlier this year, he was shortlisted for the Insurance Insider Honours ‘Young Underwriter of the Year’ award.
In addition to Ben’s promotion, Canopius is pleased to welcome Imogen Wright to the Marine & Energy Treaty team. Imogen joins from Guy Carpenter, where she served as a Vice President for more than three years. Prior to that, she spent five years in the Marine underwriting team at Ascot Group, before joining Miller Insurance Services LLP as a Reinsurance Broker in 2019. Her broad experience across broking, underwriting, and operations brings valuable insight and capability to the team.
Canopius would also like to thank Claire Wallace, who will be leaving the business, for her contributions to the Marine & Energy Treaty portfolio.
Aloïs Rouffiac, UK Chief Underwriting Officer, commented: “Ben’s promotion is a proud moment for Canopius. His journey from graduate hire to Head of Marine & Energy Treaty is a testament to his dedication, technical expertise and collaborative spirit. He embodies the values of our Marine Treaty team – empowered, accountable, and committed to delivering for our clients. We are also delighted to welcome Imogen to the team. Her diverse experience across broking and underwriting will bring fresh perspective and further strengthen our ability to serve clients with agility and insight.”
Charles Cooper, CEO, Canopius Reinsurance, added: “We are deeply committed to recognising and nurturing talent from within, and Ben’s appointment is a clear example of that. At the same time, we continue to build on our strengths by bringing in high-calibre individuals like Imogen. Together, they represent the depth and breadth of expertise that defines our Marine & Energy Treaty team.”
