Jennifer Bitencourt
Application Support Analyst
How did you enter the insurance industry? Was there a specific turning point, mentor, or experience that put you on your current path?
My path into insurance wasn’t a straight line. I started here as a cleaner, then moved through reception, the service desk, app support, and into my current role as an Azure platform analyst, all here. Honestly, what drew me in was the excitement of learning about the industry and connecting with incredible colleagues. The welcoming atmosphere made me realize that insurance is a place where I truly belong and can thrive. It wasn’t a single moment or person, it was the collective experience and support from everyone.
What do you love most about what you do, and what do you find most challenging?
What I love most is how much I’m learning. I joined this role in January 2026, so every week brings something new, and I enjoy getting hands-on and building real confidence with the Azure platform. Working closely with the infrastructure engineers on my team has been a big part of that, I’m learning a lot from them about how everything fits together. Even smaller wins, like tracing a user’s missing Edge favourites back to a profile sync issue, are satisfying because they show the progress I’m making. The most challenging part is the flip side: cloud technology never stands still, so there’s a lot to absorb. But staying curious with a strong team around me is exactly what drew me to this work.
What does a typical day or week look like in your role?
Right now, a lot of my week is about learning while doing, supporting users, investigating, and resolving issues on the platform, and working closely with the infrastructure engineers on my team for daily Azure tasks. Since I joined in January, no two days are the same, and that variety is part of what makes the work interesting.
If you had to pick one professional or personal achievement you’re most proud of what would it be?
Without a doubt, the journey I’ve had within Canopius. It wasn’t one big moment, but each step built on the last through curiosity, effort, and the support of the people around me. To me, it’s proof that where you start doesn’t have to be where you end up.
Outside of work, do you have any hobbies that you do to unwind or any special interests you think more people should care about?
I enjoy traveling and discovering new places, and living in England has truly changed me because of its rich history, culture, and beauty. I also like to relax by taking walks with my dog, reading, and going to the gym. One thing that fascinates me is learning about where we come from. Since I’m from Brazil, where many people have diverse backgrounds, I often build family trees for friends and others to help them discover their origins.
Alice Breen
Data Apprentice
How did you enter the insurance industry? Was there a specific turning point, mentor, or experience that put you on your current path?
I joined Canopius straight after completing my A Levels in Maths, Economics and 3D Design. Like many students finishing their A Levels, I was considering university, but I wasn’t convinced it was the right fit for me. I enjoyed problem-solving, technology, and creative thinking, and wanted to develop practical skills in a real-world environment rather than continue in full-time education.
While exploring different career options, I came across the Data Apprentice opportunity at Canopius. The role immediately stood out to me because it combined analytical thinking, technology, and business problem-solving. It also offered the chance to learn about the insurance industry, which I quickly realised was far more complex, varied and data driven than I had expected. Choosing an apprenticeship wasn’t the conventional route among my peers, and not everyone immediately understood my decision. Looking back, taking that leap was one of the best decisions I’ve made. It allowed me to gain hands-on experience, develop technical skills, and discover a career that genuinely excites me.
What do you love most about what you do, and what do you find most challenging?
Canopius has a great culture, and I’ve been fortunate to work with supportive colleagues who are always willing to share their knowledge and help me develop. I enjoy using Power BI to create dashboards that help users get the most out of Insights Analytics. The most challenging part of the role is keeping up with the pace of change. Technology and business requirements are always evolving, so there is a constant need to learn and adapt. However, that’s also what makes the role rewarding, as it pushes me to develop new skills and continuously improve.
What does a typical day or week look like in your role?
Most days start with a team catch-up to make sure everyone is up to date and aligned on priorities. From there, my time can vary depending on the projects I’m working on. A typical week might involve developing Power BI dashboards, working with data in Databricks, investigating issues, or supporting improvements to Insights Analytics. I also regularly meet with stakeholders and colleagues across the business to understand requirements, gather feedback and discuss ongoing work. The variety of technical work, problem-solving and collaboration means that every week is slightly different, which keeps the role both interesting and rewarding.
If you had to pick one professional or personal achievement you’re most proud of, what would it be?
The achievement I am most proud of is completing my Data Analyst apprenticeship at Canopius. Starting my career straight after my A Levels was a big step, and balancing work, study, and professional development over the course of the apprenticeship was both challenging and rewarding.
Another highlight has been being nominated for the Women in Tech Awards 2026 in the categories of Rising Star of the Year and Apprentice of the Year. Being recognised in this way was something I never expected when I joined Canopius, and it was a proud moment that reflected not only my own development but also the support, opportunities and encouragement I’ve received throughout my apprenticeship journey.
Outside of work, do you have any hobbies that you do to unwind or any special interests you think more people should care about?
Outside of work, you’ll usually find me at the gym, spending time with friends or out on the farm with my dogs. I have a German Shepherd called Shadow, a Belgian Malinois called Kahn and a Rottweiler called Dasher, so there’s always something keeping me busy. When I’m not out with the dogs, I’m usually catching up with friends, whether that’s going out for food or getting our nails done.
