London, 15 September 2026 — Canopius Group, a leading global Specialty and P&C (re)insurer, today announced the creation of a Group Analytics function and the appointment of Nick Betteridge as Group Chief Analytics Officer.
The newly created role brings the Group’s AI, data science, machine learning, analytics, and pricing capabilities together under a single executive leader and takes effect on 1 October 2026.
Nick is a member of the Canopius Group Leadership Team and reports to Neil Robertson, Group Chief Executive Officer. He moves into the dedicated role having served as Group Chief Actuary since 2018.
The appointment reflects a deliberate decision to put analytics and AI at the centre of how Canopius underwrites, manages claims and makes decisions across its four regions.
The Group’s approach to AI is business-led rather than technology-led: the focus will be on business problems worth solving and applying AI where it demonstrably improves the outcome, while keeping a ‘human in the loop’ on material decisions. For clients and brokers, the intended results are practical ones — faster response times, quicker claims payments, sharper risk selection and better products and service overall.
Neil Robertson said: “The winners over the next decade will be those who successfully harness the power of AI and data, and we intend to lead that change rather than follow it. We are scaling strongly and performing with consistency and discipline, and this is the moment to build on that momentum by putting real focus and investment behind data, analytics, and AI as enablers of our next phase of growth.”
Nick Betteridge said: “This is a hugely exciting moment for Canopius. We have built solid data foundations, and we now have the opportunity to apply AI and analytics in ways that make a real difference to how we underwrite, price business and serve our clients. The way we will win is not by chasing the most complex technology, but by understanding the business problems we want to solve and using AI to solve them well.”
Canopius also confirmed that Rhiannon Seah will be promoted to Group Chief Actuary, succeeding Betteridge with Group-wide accountability for the actuarial function, including reserving and capital. Rhiannon will report to Gavin Phillips, Group Chief Financial Officer.
