Canopius Expands APAC Leadership Across Casualty & Financial Lines

Sydney, 2 June 2025 – Canopius, a leading global specialty (re)insurer, today announces two senior appointments within its Asia Pacific (APAC) region.

Brodie English has been appointed Head of Casualty, Australia and New Zealand, and Rob Barnum has been appointed Head of Financial Lines, APAC, with both appointments effective from 1 June 2025.

Brodie steps into his new role to lead the development of the Casualty portfolio across the region. Having previously held senior roles at AXA XL and Tokio Marine, he brings over 15 years of experience in casualty underwriting, complex risk assessment, and broker relationship management. Since joining Canopius three years ago, Brodie has led the underwriting of complex accounts, mentored junior underwriters, and spearheaded the implementation of a new underwriting system. In his new role, he will focus on enhancing client delivery, aligning underwriting practices with evolving market standards, and supporting the portfolio’s strategic growth.

Rob has been appointed to lead the Financial Lines division across the Asia-Pacific region. With more than a decade of experience in financial lines underwriting and regional portfolio management, he has held senior roles at XL Catlin and AXIS Capital, including Head of Professional Lines & Cyber APAC. Since joining Canopius just over a year ago, Rob has played a pivotal role in expanding the Professional Lines portfolio across APAC. In his new role, he will focus on driving growth, strengthening market presence, and delivering long-term value to clients.

These appointments mark the next step in Canopius’ strategic realignment across the region, with ANZ Casualty’s structure now more closely aligned with other regions and focused on delivering two distinct product lines: Casualty and Financial Lines. Craig Elliott will be leaving the company to pursue further opportunities. Canopius thanks Craig for his contributions and the strong foundation he helped to establish.

Speaking on the two new appointments, Soon Keen (SK) Lee, Chief Executive Officer of Canopius APAC and Middle East & North Africa (MENA), said:

“Brodie and Rob’s appointments mark an important step in the evolution of our APAC business. They bring an exceptional blend of technical expertise, market insight, and leadership experience, and are ideally placed to lead our Casualty and Financial Lines portfolios. With the new structure now in place, I’m confident they will help us deliver even greater value to clients and further strengthen our relationships with partners across the region.”
