Canopius has been operating in the Asia Pacific region (APAC) for more than 15 years, writing risks from Singapore, Shanghai and Sydney. Our focus is a combination of Treaty Reinsurance, wholesale Direct and Facultative Property, and Casualty as well as SME business via coverholders and brokers. Canopius opened an office in Sydney in 2019 to complement our growing APAC operations.
Our specialist underwriters offer our brokers and clients a technical approach to pricing and breadth of knowledge. Through application of our underwriting expertise and technical, proactive approach, we have the capability and flexibility to respond swiftly to market developments and structure products to match our clients’ needs.
Meet the APAC Executive Team
Chief Executive Officer, Asia Pacific & MENA
Soon Keen (SK) Lee is Chief Executive Officer, Asia Pacific & MENA at Canopius, responsible for leading the Business Unit across Singapore, Australia, and the wider MENA region. She brings 28 years of experience in P&C insurance, having held senior underwriting and leadership roles at AIG, Catlin, and Aspen Re. Most recently, she served as Head of Commercial Property and SME for APAC at AIG, managing a diverse regional portfolio. SK joined Canopius in 2024 and now spearheads the APAC Executive Committee, driving growth and strategic development across the region.
Chief Operating Officer, APAC
Michelle Rudd, Chief Operating Officer, APAC, joined Canopius in 2025 and is responsible for overseeing operational strategy and performance across the region. With extensive experience in claims and operations, Michelle plays a key role in driving efficiency, governance, and service excellence to support Canopius’ growth across APAC. Before joining Canopius, Michelle was Director and Operations Manager at Arch Underwriting at Lloyd’s (Australia), where she established branch operations and led the design and development of infrastructure, business processes, and service delivery.
Chief Financial Officer, APAC & MENA
Fern joined Canopius in 2019 as the Head of Finance, Risk & Compliance APAC & MENA where she is responsible for the Company’s financial, regulatory and compliance functions within the Asia Pacific Region. She began her career as an auditor with PwC LLP in Singapore, working on numerous insurance and reinsurance audits before spending nine years with Markel as the Regional Finance and Operations Manager.
Fern graduated with an honours degree in Bachelor of Accountancy from the Nanyang Technological University and is a qualified Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants.
Country Head of Australia & Pacific and Head of Insurance, APAC
Andrew Ziolkowski, Country Head of Australia & Pacific and Head of Insurance, APAC, joined Canopius in 2025 and is responsible for leading the company’s strategy, operations, and insurance portfolio across the region. He brings more than 28 years of experience in insurance and financial services, spanning underwriting, transformation, product management, claims, analytics, and regulatory affairs. Before joining Canopius, Andrew was Chief Underwriting and Transformation Officer at QBE Insurance and previously served as Group Executive of Insurance for the New South Wales Self Insurance Corporation. He has also held senior leadership roles at IAG/Wesfarmers Insurance and Zurich Financial Services.
Head of Actuarial, APAC
Thomas joined Canopius in June 2019 as Head of Actuarial – Asia Pacific & MENA. He is a qualified Actuary, with 15 years of experience in Asian and European (re)insurance markets. More than 10 years of this experience have been accrued in APAC, working at SCOR and Odyssey Reinsurance Company, overseeing pricing, CAT modelling and risk management activities.
Head of Claims, APAC
Chen Zhang is Head of Claims, APAC at Canopius, responsible for leading the regional claims strategy and operations across Asia Pacific. He brings more than 15 years of experience in claims adjusting, engineering risk assessment, and commercial property across the region. Prior to joining Canopius in 2025, Chen was Branch Manager at Factual Mutual Insurance Company in Hong Kong, where he oversaw business operations and complex claims across APAC. His technical expertise and leadership are central to delivering claims excellence and supporting the company’s growth across the region.
